How did you find out about the Brooks saddle,Dirk? Is it meant to be the best there is? It seems to take more breaking in than a woman! (Just Joking).
Yes, the competition for the writing ends at 6 am tomorrow morning (ie midnight tonight, eastern US time).Comments have been posted from 11 countries, including, I believe, some lovely ones from S.Sfricans living in Aussie.(Thank you for that!)So even if we do not win-which would now be a surprise-I am over the moon about the encouraging support that has been given.I hope we can get that same reaction when we do our sponsored rides!

Hi Eric,

Yeah, it's looking very positive. I just had a look before I came here and noticed that you were considerably more than 100 votes ahead. I read that the number of people that have viewed your article also plays a part in the final count and as you said, anything can happen. But yeah, it's looking positive and I trust you'll win!!

As for the Brooks: Over the last couple of months I've been visiting a cycling forum and every time someone mentions an uncomfortable ride, a number of people will suggest the Brooks. Some other names were also mentioned, but the Brooks name stayed with me coz I heard it so often. Right now it is extremely uncomfortable and I would not recommend it to anyone. I'd say wait a while and let me put a couple of hundred Kms onto this saddle and I'll give you an honest opinion. I went for the B67 because it has springs in, but it seems like the B17 is their most popular model for touring. I think the different models depends on what you want to use it for.

Anyway, by the end of this weekend I should have over 400Kms on the saddle and if it's not getting better a week after that, I will certainly not be recommending the Brooks. So just wait 2 weeks and I'll let you know.

I assume you're also struggling a bit as you seem to be quite interested in the Brooks? Dude, you better get something comfortable for those 11,000Kms in the saddle :)

After reading those challenges of 2009 , I'm inspired again to make this work and bring some money in for Thamsanqa.

Scratch that!!!

Tonight I'm taking this Brooks saddle off and going back to my original $10 saddle. This thing is killing me. I'm not joking, I'm worried about things that people require medical procedures for! It's not the normal numb-bum pain, this is a burning sensation that I'll rather not explain in too much detail.

I shifted the saddle last night and cycled 23Kms this morning and it just aint working for me. I think I'm too big for this saddle, so I'm not sitting in the saddle, I'm sitting on the rim and it's torture.

So I think I should start a thread about finding the perfect saddle, though at this stage I'll have to name the topic "How not to ...".

I'll go back to my el-cheapo saddle tonight and get myself a gel-pack tomorrow. Don't know much about them, but maybe it can help for this weekend's trip.
