Finally got my Surly Crosscheck today! Yay!!

It's a completely different beast to the Giant Elwood Hybrid that I've been riding up to now. Even though it's steel, it's much lighter.
Finally got it assembled about 1/2 hour ago and as it was almost dark, I just had a short ride with it up and down my street.

Had the Brooks Flyer saddle on for a moment, but that's not going to work for me... Things just don't fit!!

Don't have much of an opinion yet, but I'll ride to work tomorrow and see how she goes.

Alright party people,

Last night I wasn't too certain how I felt about the bike, especially because my experience with the bike shop that I bought it from, Bike Pro in Melbourne, was somewhat negative. Also, love at first sight is pretty difficult with that baby-poo brown, but as someone else said Surly's bike colours are great theft detterents:)

But I've just had my 23km morning commute and I think we have a winner!

Since the above pictures, I've installed a waterbottle cage, a mini pump, lights and a saddle bag. But got too late last night to start struggling with fitting the cycling computer. So I don't know what my speed was this morning, but it felt like I was going pretty fast!! Also, I now understand what people mean when they say a bike is either sluggish or responsive. This baby just seems to turn quicker without making me feel like I'm losing control.

On the negative, the bottom of the handlebars, where the brakes and gear shifters are, seems a little low and I find it a bit distracting changing hand positions to change gears or to break. On the other hand, the top of the bars is terribly comfortable and I suspect that's where my hands will be located most of the time on the long road. Will have to see though, as a 23km ride isn't enough for an opinion.
