Thamsanqa Foster Homes

We care for orphaned and abandoned children by providing foster homes for them to live in and grow with love, security and respect. We have bought, renovated and furnished three homes in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth . A fourth house has been bought and must now be renovated, extended and then be furnished.

In each home we have a foster mother with only six children living with her. The home functions as a family. The foster mothers are being screened and trained to provide the children with the affection and security they need for their sound development.

We ensure that the children have adequate food and clothes. Every child has his own bed to sleep on. 17 children are attending primary school and five are in high school. The youngest is attending a crèche.

More Life Skills Programmes need to be presented to the children, but funds are required in order to initiate it. The education of the children is a priority. We are ensuring that the children attend school regularly, and motivate them to take part in after school activities like, music, choirs, soccer and netball. We involve them in life skills programmes, therapeutic sessions etc.

We need assistance and help in this regard.

Thamsanqa Times 1st Edition FAMILY RESTORATION SERVICES runs a comprehensive community development programme in Motherwell caring for orphans, abused, neglected and abandoned children, the majority being HIV/AIDS affected or infected children. Changing Lives

The children of the Thamsanqa Homes are children that found themselves in a high risk situation. Some of the children were living with relatives that are/were (deceased by now) terminally ill with AIDS and many were unable to attend school. These children were exposed to high levels of neglect, abuse and would carry hurts in body, mind and heart with them for the rest of their lives. Fortunately we were able to intervene and provided counseling and all the necessary services. Everybody stands amazed that none of our children are showing any behavioural problems. Our mothers are loving and caring people.

Funding needed
  1. Running costs. We really need funds for running costs. The work must be done. The present staff members work very hard under very difficult circumstances. We are not always sure that there will be funds available for salaries.
  2. Funds to feed and clothe the children.
  3. Funds for the houses:
    1. Built-in cupboards in all 4 houses
    2. Vibracrete walls around houses 3 and 4
    3. Renovations at house no. 4. A full bathroom plus pipes and connections are needed, walls to be completed and a roof put on a certain area
    4. Furniture for the fourth house.
    5. Funds for stipends for the mothers. The mothers work hard and need some remuneration which we cannot afford to give them.
  4. Funds to run the Asibavikele and Isolabantwana community programmes. The 23 volunteers are doing an excellent job finding and caring for Aids orphans and neglected and abused children. As a result we are caring for more than a 100 children in the Motherwell community additional to the 24 children in the Foster Homes project.
